Yesterday was an inspiring day as I joined friends, and supporters to celebrate an incredible milestone in my friend Reka’s life. After over a decade of hard work, passion, and perseverance, Reka has not only published her long-awaited book but also established her own publishing company, Yellow Stairs Publishing. It was an unforgettable moment, marking the culmination of her creative journey and the beginning of a new chapter.
Reka’s story is one of dedication and resilience. Her commitment to her craft has been nothing short of inspiring, and those of us who have watched her journey unfold know just how much this achievement means. And now, Reka’s vision didn’t stop at just at her photo book. She dreamed of creating a platform that would empower other authors, particularly those whose voices are often overlooked in traditional publishing. This dream led to the birth of Yellow Stairs Publishing, a company that embodies her passion for storytelling through imagery - mainly photography and her desire to make a meaningful impact - “through small-scale production and eco-conscious choices, Yellow Stairs’ books are not only beautiful but also gentle with your budget — and the environment.”
The celebration was with a twist of understated and the atmosphere was warm and vibrant, reflecting the energy that Reka brings to everything she does. I was also super humbled to learn about the dedication to me which I really didn’t anticipate… Her new book, On Fading Away, is a deeply personal and moving exploration of her father’s passing and her own belated coming-of-age at the age of 30.
