there are (no)rules

Recently I have been doing some interesting photoshoots and something funny happened, I noticed some patterns when preparing for the photoshoot. And as much as every situation is unique, I wanted to share some tips for the client before a photoshoot.

  • Communicate Your Vision: Clearly communicate your expectations and vision for the photoshoot. Discuss the style, mood, and specific shots you have in mind.

  • Plan Your Outfits: Coordinate outfits that complement each other and suit the style of the shoot. Avoid overly busy patterns or logos that may distract from the focus of the photos. Personally, I really don’t like massive logos and advice against them.

  • Arrive Prepared: Make sure you arrive at the photoshoot location on time and ready to go. Bring any necessary props or accessories that you'd like to incorporate into the photos.

  • Relax and Have Fun: Try to relax and enjoy the process! Trust in your photographer's expertise and direction, and don't be afraid to express yourself during the shoot. Genuine expressions and emotions often make for the best photographs.

  • Be Flexible: Keep in mind that unexpected changes or challenges may arise during the shoot. Stay flexible and open-minded, and be willing to try different poses and angles suggested by the photographer.

  • Hydrate and Rest: Ensure you're well-rested and hydrated before the shoot to help you look and feel your best in front of the camera.

  • Communicate Comfort Levels: If there are any specific poses or situations that make you uncomfortable, don't hesitate to communicate this with the photographer. It's important to feel relaxed and at ease during the shoot.

  • Review the Agreement and Expectations: Before the shoot, review the agreement with the photographer to clarify any details regarding usage rights, delivery timeline, and post-production editing.

Perhaps these are some helpful tips to help with that sometimes very confronting situation as a photoshoot. I know I had that myself and I don’t think I can get used to it still…
