One question project: Hilin Düyü
How do you think music can help the world?
Music is a universal language. The frequencies you put into your body by singing can be healing. The one who plays or sings, puts their soul in it and everyone is able to feel that. To me that is what music is all about. Connecting by feeling. Singing to me is opening up my deepest self, which is very scary if you sing in front of a crowd. Especially when playing my own songs. There is no act in that, those are my painful memories put into music. When someone tells me how my music touches them in whatever kind of way, it makes me so incredibly happy. It means that the songs I wrote to heal myself, are healing others too. I would advise everybody to start singing, even when you think you can't. It will help you process emotions, thoughts and even traumatic experiences. The breathing techniques and focus you have to have are the same as in meditation and mindfulness. Anyone can sing!
About Hilin:
As a singer and musician I’ve always had an interest in expressing emotions. I like to play with sounds and words but also different perspectives in storytelling and approaching my songs. At age fifteen I started studying music and by the age of 20 I toured around with a band, did more than 60 shows in three months and supported acts such as Gym Class Heroes, Jett Rebel, Sabrina Starke and Rev. John Lee Hooker JR. In 2020 I released my first solo album called "The Bedroom Session" and recently had the opportunity to play in London. As a songwriter I like to approach every song differently, that keeps it interesting to me but also to the listeners. To use topics no one really speaks about and tell stories that are sometimes painful but end on a positive note (or not). I recently started coaching young artists by helping them putting their dreams into a workable plan. Working on insecurities that I ran into as a young starting independent artist.
