One question project: Bahghi

How do you navigate the pressures of social media while maintaining creativity, finding your unique voice to inspire others, and sustaining your creative flow?

Hmmm, that’s a beautiful question. My truest voice when singing is when I am able to connect with my feelings and emotions. Whether that’s fatigue, joy, sadness, anger, happiness, peace.. I get most creative and in flow when I’m able to acknowledge those and use them for my expression. Another way is somewhat the other way around. Where I imagine the feeling that I want to embody and use the song to visualize that as much as possible. Creating a whole story in my head that I manifest through my music.

I don’t know how that inspires the people around me. I guess that when one does what they’re supposed to do, it’s inspiring for those who can see that. That’s what inspires me in other people however for me, I like making things, like doing crochet, making body lotions or redecorating my house. But also cooking, connecting with my body, meditating, journaling or reading. And travelling, whether that’s going for walks in the neighbourhood and in nature spots nearby, or actually visiting a different place can be very inspiring as well.

Yeah, social media is a tough one. I think social media actually works best for me if I’m also creating output. Just for fun. As a way to express who I am and what I’m doing. Sometimes it gives me anxiety which comes with doing things publicly. Everyone can see what I’m putting out so sometimes I get concerned about what others might think of it. At the same time that’s also the fun part of it, no?

And yeah, it can get very addictive as well. The scrolling. At times I just give into it. Other times I limit myself.

About Bahghi:

Hi, my name is Bahghi (pronounced Ba-h-ghi) and I’m a singer-songwriter, musician and producer. I was born in Amsterdam and raised in an Eritrean household. Since I was 4 years old, I’ve been playing all kinds of instruments including violin, cello and piano. After studying jazz vocals at the Conservatory of Amsterdam, I taught myself how to play guitar and started recording and releasing my own music. Music has always been my safe haven, a world that I can disappear and co-create in. It’s a way for me to release, express and imagine and I love sharing those experiences with my audience.
